We have a Heavens To Betsy thread, so we should have one for Carrie's old band too.

So, what does everyone think about Excuse 17? Which album do you prefer? Favourite songs? Who was better, E17 or H2B? The usual stuff....

And a question: I downloaded an incomplete version of the song Sevenwhateverteen about 2/3 years ago and last week I remembered to search for the complete song. Where/when is it from? I guess from a compilation or something. I think I used to know seeing as I searched for it originally, but I can't remember. Can anyone shed any light?

I like E17 better than H2B, but they both kick(ed) ass. My favorite song changes with my moods, but Code Red is probably my top although I like the second album better than the s/t. Yep. Smile

Yeah I love the song "Code Red!" "Drop Dead Look" and "Wedding Song" are also good. I just love the rawness of Excuse 17. It seems like the older S-K get, the less bitter they become. That, of course, is natural (and perfectly fine with me b/c their new stuff rocks), but it's cool that we have more grungy type stuff like E17 to turn to.

Excuse 17 vs. Heavens to Betsy, what a tough decision! Ultimately, though, I'd have to go for H2B; I like almost all their songs, whereas there are a few E17 songs that I could live without.

They are both amazing though! Check out this site http://www.geocities.com/Pipeline/Curb/1065/E17H2B/

P.S. So is anyone gonna start a Quasi thread now? Wink

I think I should answer my own questions.

I like Excuse 17 better than Heavens To Betsy, but it's a tough choice, I think it's Carrie's guitar that sways it for me, the H2B sound always seemed just a little too basic. Not that basic = bad or anything. I'm just Carrie biased Smile

Code Red is my favourite on the s/t too! Carson rocks, but I find We're the Senoirs sticks out a bit amongst all the other songs, like it doesn't quite fit. I like the 2nd album better, Drop Dead Look, Watchmaker, Getoff.

It's nice to be able to see where it all started; it's encouraging when starting out in a band yourself - albums like Dig Me Out, One Beat don't just come out of nowhere.

Someone needs to start threads about Tommy, Spells, Cadallaca and Assorted Priceline Commercial Musicians Wink

I love both Excuse 17 and Heavans to Betsy. As for my favorite of the two, if I'm in a more rockin' out kind of mood I go w/E17, but if I want to sit and listen to music while doing something H2B works quite well. ("Calculated" with math homework = a slightly less painful experience).
As for favorite E17 songs I'd have to go with "I'd Rather Eat Glass," "Drop Dead Look," and "Forever Fired." I just got the s/t and haven't listened to it enough to know for sure which are my favorites. At this point I think I like "Such Friends are Dangerous" more than the s/t just cuz I think it has more really really great songs. However, I do like the raw garage sound of the s/t. Even though some of the tracks are recorded kind of bladly.

Very Happy i really like E17. i really have been into that kinda stuff lately. i dunno, i really like how some of the songs can start as something and then evolve into something else. take for instance "I'd rather eat glass," its starts as something and then goes to something real melodic and goes back and forth like that. i love that about that song. the one song that is CONSTANTLY in my head lately has been "Watchmaker". i love that song and Carrie is yet again amazing with her vocal work.

Just got Excuse 17s album. Its very good, agree about watchmaker, probably the best track on the able. My main gripe is that it sounds a bit generic early-mid 90s riot grrrl but then thats not really a bad thing as far as I am concerned.
