Carrie B has been confirmed to appear at South by Southwest in Austin, TX, next month (March 12-16) in conjuncture with NPR Music. Carrie’s set to participate in a SXSW Music Festival panel discussion, “The Blog Factor,” on Friday, March 14.
Music blogs have emerged as tastemakers by incorporating unfiltered opinion, audio/video playback, and immediate publishing. As their initial impact expands into the realm of record labels and event promoters/sponsors, can they retain the personality and quirks that first distinguished them?
For further information on the festival and Carrie’s participation continue checking, NPR Music and the SXSW Music Blog.
The long awaited film following the participates of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp for Girls will finally be getting a nationwide North American release across theaters from Match 7 in NY, LA, San Francisco, Berkeley, Chicago, Portland and Seattle on opening weekend.
At Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp, girls ranging in age from eight to 18 are taught that it’s OK to sweat like a pig, scream like a banshee, wail on their instruments with complete and utter abandon, and that “it is 100% okay to be exactly who you are.” They are taught by indie rock chicks such as Carrie Brownstein from Sleater-Kinney various lessons of empowerment from self-defense to anger management. What happens to the girls as they are given a temporary reprieve from being sexualized, analyzed and pressured to conform is truly revolutionary.
I’ve just scanned and added an in-depth interview with Carrie from the NY based, independent magazine, Verbicide, during the The Woods press blitz in ‘05. - An excellent and recommended read!
The Library has been updated with the a batch of new (old) interviews. The majority from the ‘All Hands…’ press rounds. Expect another hefty batch of reading material to be added to the archive shortly.
First major update in the (not so) new year. The gallery has undergone further aesthetic tweaks. Do let us know if you come across issues with the new theme.
Also, an immense batch of live photos have been uploaded to the gallery’s ‘Live’ archive these past few days. Including images from shows dating back to 1997.
